I Don't Get It, I Don't Just Don't Understand

One of my coworkers got in trouble because he hung out at the work place on his day off bothering other employees while they were trying to work. And he argued saying that it was better than being in the streets doing drugs.
I hate that argument because it's saying there's no other option. Either this one thing or go do drugs. There's always other options.
