@SW-User They usually are, a bit. My son's school is next door and they were also locked down. The kids I had were champs and knew exactly what to do. We do drills pretty regularly. Practice pays off. 🙂

@QueenofCups was it just a false alarm or something? I guess that'd be the best option. I suppose you might not ever even know for sure in some cases. that'd drive me insane.
@SW-User It was, thank goodness. Usually we don't know anything until after it's over, and it usually ends up being nothing. In a way, it's good, because it helps us focus on keeping the kids calm and getting in the mindset to defend them if it comes to that.
Scary. My children have had active shooter drills at their school. Doors are locked, lights are turned out. IF the shooter enters the classroom, the teacher will throw chairs, and the kids are trained to throw "anything that will hurt" the shooter.
We had fire drills, that was it. We had a bomb threat in ninth grade. so we evacuated school on a nice spring day for a couple of hours.

A sad day we live in. We have had 2 so far this year.
