I Got The Slipper At School

I got the slipper at school several times for throwing snowballs. In junior school, whenever there was snow, it seemed there were group slipperings at the beginning of the day and after most breaks of those seen throwing snowballs.

It didn't seem to happen as much at secondary school, possibly because we were more careful not to be seen.

Some teachers liked to display their power through slipperings; others just enjoyed the proceedings! In my secondary school, slipperings were common; I would say there was rarely a day in first, second and third year without at least one, and often many more, pupils bending over for the slipper.

@RhondasMum In my school it was used about the same from 1st to 5th years. It was used a lot less in 6th form but tended to be more and harder whacks when it was.

@Sharon different schools, different methods. But a slippering in sixth year was unusual - and meant to be remembered. Always six then.

@RhondasMum In 1st to 5th years most classroom slipperings were just 2 or 3, sometime 4 and rarely 6. In 6th form, 6 was usual although we sometimes just got form.

There was no slipper when I was at school. I am glad I missed the time when teachers could slipper - they hated me!

We had no corporal punishment in school in Poland. I live in England since 2005. I hear people saying they had corporal punishment in school years ago.

@Martinette That just shows how far behind Poland the UK is.

@Martinette It was common in my day, back in the 1960s. In principle I’m in favour of it, but it can be, and was, abused.

@MartinII My parents were in school in the 1960s. I was born in 1980.

Just for throwing snow balls that’s so stupid. That’s what kids do , it’s fun to them. When I was in primary school we wasn’t even allowed to play with the snow as kids aurged over who it belonged to 😆 I only got slippered at home by my dad when he found out my behaviour at school was bad.

@SW-User I got slippered at school for throwing snowballs too. It was one of the stupid rules that teachers like to make to help them feel superior.

@Sharon and they wonder why kids not want to be there most of the time

Nothing QUITE like the slipper on a cold morning in mid February!
Lynda70 · F
@MaryWat It certainly warmed our bums up.

@MaryWat Yikes!!
My wife got the cane in junior school for throwing snowballs. She was one of large group slippered a few days before for having a snowball fight. When another snowball fight broke out, she joined in. Most of those taking part were slippered but the few, like my wife, who had been slippered previously got the cane.
@johnsonjelena45 No, neither of us were spanked at home for getting into trouble at school. I don't think follow-up was all that common in the UK.

@NortiusMaximus My parents never knew that I was caned at school as I never told them. They knew that I was slippered from time to time as that was part of school life but they regarded school punishments as closure on the misdemeanours.
@Rebecca54 That how my parents saw it. They knew my sisters and I got the cane sometimes but that was the end of it.

We were not punished for throwing snowballs in a fight but we sure copped it if a teacher or window was hit, then it was a cane job on the butt

@JoBlak I was treated as just one of the boys. Whenever we were in trouble I was slippered or caned just the same as they were.
@Sharon Absolutely we had great respect for anyone not crying or howling! Not easy to pull off!

What was actually wrong with throwing snowballs? The slipper didn't seem to have deterred many!
Lynda70 · F
@ArishMell I don't know what was wrong, it just gave them something else to punish us for. Schools didn't need a reason to ban something, very few school rules have any real point. Boys and girls were always getting the slipper, it never really deterred us.

@Lynda70 Just a love of their authority perhaps - or to disguise ineptitude at looking after others' children.
condor · 61-69, M
Think some of the girls at my school should have been slippered, they did worse things than you!!
