I’m so sorry that you’re in this situation and I can definitely relate. I’ve tapered down more than once for different reasons and I’m currently at less than 1/3 of my highest dosages but I’m not very functional and it’s frustrating to be on meds when they still work but not unless I have the right amount. My prescribing doctor seems like he just wants to get rid of the responsibility of my pain care and I just want to have the ability to control my pain enough to make it possible to take care of myself and live independently as I don’t know anyone in my area and friend base to ask for help so it often falls to my parents and I don’t want them to feel like they have to be there for me as they are stretched pretty thin helping my sister out with caring for their grandchildren and I know it’s not easy for them but I would prefer that they have the choice to decide what they spend their time and energy on. I’m so sick of feeling like a burden on top of the stress of being in pain nonstop and without any pain relieving assistance. It’s frustrating and scary to think about my future. 😔

Seek out a pain management clinic/doctor. You can continue to see your PCP, and also go to a pain clinic. PCPs are generally only concerned with primary care (short term), and are not equipped to deal with long term, chronic illness. It sucks having to go to multiple “specialty” doctors, but unfortunately that is the age in which we live. In my experience, PCPs are good for giving cold medicine and referrals, not much else.

@BananaBrown Thanks for the input! I do believe that could be the next step here. I do, however, have an aversion to pain clinics from poor past experience. I cannot have steroidal injections which are all the rage these days, I have a very bad reaction psychologically. Granted I've only been referred to once before, all they were interested in doing was to eliminate the medication as well. I guess I should be open to the possibility that they might actually do their job correctly, but I agree to have more specialists/etc. is a pain in the ass...
