I Have Empathy

Sometimes I Can't Help But Feel For Others... It isn't just sympathy. I can genuinely put myself in other peoples shoes. I see or hear tragic news stories all the time. My first thoughts after "how tragic" is "what would I do?, how would I react?, and would I feel the same emotions they are?" I then feel the heartache, the anger, the frustration, and the bewilderment that they do. Not exactly the same intensity or the same mix, but I think because I've experienced personal tragedy myself, I can better feel it in others. It has made me a better person and friend as a result. I'm more attuned to my friends' needs than I was before.
A recent tragedy really touched me. Near where I live, there was a senseless shooting at a apartment complex where a man chased and shot one guy, ran into the rental office shot and killed one lady, ran out and shot a lady in her apartment, and came back to the rental office and found the 2nd lady and shot her. All this for nothing before he shoots himself. What is saddest is the first lady who was killed (the only death besides the gunman) had just recently transferred to that location to make extra money for her family. She was reported by tenants as an extra nice person who always had a smile for you and was there to help you in any capacity. How many people actually get that from their landlord on a regular basis.
It made me sad & angry at the same time, feelings that I'm sure her family have as well. Senseless death always affects me.
