A low profile to the authorities is very difficult these days, even if you try hard enough the system is very much stacked against individualism and uniqueness. Everything is being controlled by those abusing the populace as a means to try and control the multitude, the great unwashed!
A person living in their own shack built in their own land without interdiction from the local municipality is seen as a threat of some kind so that they come in to your land to try to force their controls upon you and your every action, for two reasons - fear of dissent, and fear of loss of taxation!
