Not mocking emmy real question why do the depressed people tend to pretend there happier and strong independant people ?
EmmyG1205 · 31-35, F
That's an awesome and valid question. Everyone copes differently....I guess in my case I try to "fake it til I make it." I guess I hope that one day it will all just come more naturally for me.

@EmmyG1205: hope so

As a father of a child with learning disabilities I couldn't agree more although not quite the same my child faces similar struggles as we try to help him feel he fits in the world just as much as anyone else has a right to. He cannot help how he is but he is trying very hard to do as well as his abilities allow him.

Absolutely, there is a stigma that comes with mental illness and there is a very similar stigma that goes along with learning disabilities.

@EmmyG1205: he has been bullied and made fun of for reasons he doesn't understand when all he wants is to have friends and join in. It's difficult to see him quietly hurting. If only others would put themselves in the shoes of those struggling with mental illnesses. You don't have to do much more than be considerate, understanding and a little kind.

This post is extremely accurate. I myself do not know what if is like having a mental illness, but I have raised a child with them, so I have some form of experience.

When ever I hear someone say "it is just in your head, get over it" I respond with "that is correct. Just like your heart disease, just get over it" then I walk away

Well you don't have to deal with it alone, if you ever need to talk I'll listen.

I have schizo affective disorder, I am so used to people talking shit about me and being afraid and running away never having anybody understand me. I have made my peace with it all...I'm still happy! Best part is my hallucinations are heavenly.

I joke about mine. it's how I deal with it.

i no longer battle depression, we have an armed cease-fire
EmmyG1205 · 31-35, F
That is your right to joke about it if it is what helps you deal. I personally just don't find that to be a healthy way for me to deal with it.
