Driving with a learner's permit in the dead of night with my dad

I'm on a straight road, sort of hilly, sporadic telephone lines running along the right side with a field to our right. I accidentally turn off the headlights, don't remember how. Maybe I was trying to turn off the wipers & being a dumbass? Anyway, I can't see a damn thing in front of me. My mind goes totally blank as the car soars through the blackness of what might as well be outer space for what feels like an eternity, probably three seconds or so. Just as my dad's hand latches onto the right side of the steering wheel with the clean intent of yanking it off the road, I feel my fingers pull the headlight switch knob and the high beams turn on.

Like damn dude, randomest shit like that could kill you. My dad's a brave man for teaching me.
