I don’t know about best, I don’t read much fantasy. But here are some...
[u]First Law Trilogy[/u] by Joe Abercrombie. Cool world-building, awe inspiring violence.
[u]Prince of Nothing trilogy[/u] by R Scott Bakker - the sequels are weaker, but this first set is very strong. Great characters, and a crazy universe with interesting and detailed metaphysics.
[u]The Engineer Trilogy[/u] by KJ Parker. If you’re sick of having magic get in the way of political intrigue and war.
