I Cried My Eyes Out When My Bum Was Smacked

I was brought up during the 50s and 60s when getting a smack bum was commonplace. My mum could flip a naughty girl over her knee and give a bum a good smacking in a brace of shakes. My sister and I often had that experience both as individuals and together. In fact rarely a week went by when one of us wasn’t over her knee for some misdemeanour which led to loads of crying and pleading and a bright red bum at the end, which we would then try to cool off.
Even as teenagers mum believed we were not too old to feel the weight of her hand if we misbehaved. Not just once but every time we needed it. Did it do it any harm apart from a sore bottom and a damaged ego? Not in the slightest we are both now agreed! Good on yer mum! You taught us to behave!

As a boy of the same period I got regular doses of the slipper or belt. But. I was expected to “take it like a man” and not cry.

@smacked30D my father knew how to deliver an effective slippering. My friend’s fathers were also good slipperers, I had it from several of them and can vouch for their competence with a slipper. I always tried to hold back the tears.

@Sharon Were you embarrassed that your cousins saw you having your bare bottom spanked? I guess it would have been equally embarrassing for them to have their bottoms bared in front of you too. When I was wee, I think adults often just assumed that kids weren't embarrassed about people seeing them naked.
