I Enjoy Philosophical and Thoughtful Discussion

You can't put your opinions out there on a public forum and then say "no one respond to this. I only want to speak, I don't want to listen or talk about it," and expect people to listen. You can't speak on a subject and stay aloof from the subject at the same time - and I'm not saying that you can't do it because it's not allowed, I'm saying that you can't do it any more than you can swim in the ocean without getting wet (yeah yeah, I know, wet-suits - but you bloody well know what I mean). The act of speaking puts you in the conversation, whether you want it to or not. And if you're so closed minded that you don't recognize that, then all I feel is sorry for you.

I agree with you to a point, but when it becomes obvious that the giving of your opinion is pointless because the other isn't hearing and will never hear, that is the moment you take the high road and remove yourself. Words are important and powerful, but misused in many conversations that turn into debates that turn into arguing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for disengaging and walking away from a conversation that's going nowhere. This story was originally going to be a comment in a particular conversation with someone, but it turned out that they had blocked me. Posting it as a story was my way of venting.
