I Admire People Who Are Not Afraid To Be Themselves

I Admire People Who Are Not Afraid To Be Themselves - kind of, with certain qualification. If they are a real dirt bag and full of bulldust and they simply do not care about the the thoughts and feelings of other people then I make an exception in that particular case, their fearlessness is not a strength it is a serious maladjustment or personality disorder. A small percentage of the human race is like this and they are worth avoiding whenever possible. A faceless bureaucrat that I recently had to speak to dealt with "my case" in a very unpleasant manner which I subsequently described to an aquaintance at church who simply refused to believe that such a thing could possibly occur in our country today. Each of those people was abusive and offensive in their own way. The public servant can easily take refuge in the status of officialdom. Their attitude and manner would make them unemployable in any service industry or retail outlet where common courtesy is considered an essential qualification. There is little that I can do directly about their attitude and behaviour on the job. Employment by government is the last refuge of the incompetent. But I have learned an important lesson. Many people take refuge in ideals that they pay regular lip service to but turn away from in real life. They accept symbolic enactment as a substitute for real compliance with their "beliefs". As for that aquaintance at church I now know they can not be trusted since they require me to disregard my own experience and common sence. It was a painful lesson but I am glad I learned it before I trusted them with anything really important. Some countries have a problem with exploding Afghans. In my country we have exploding elections. After the next one that public servant may be looking for a real job, somewhere else.
