What surprised me is the question about illegal immigrants. The immigrant guy is saying that the crime rate wouldn't increase, okay. It still leaves the country open, that just isn't a safe position. I really don't get how anyone can be okay with open borders. What I've been seeing recently is a push on overall welfare, there isn't a marked increase or some such wording. I then must ask, aren't there those that do exploit it? Negligible numbers maybe, but why even allow it?
On to other things about immigrants. The Statue of Liberty and the huddled masses statement, I have seen the same people that use this also call the second amendment into question because of age and relevance to today. Do they not see that this was from a time where that nation was needing the growth? We still need immigrants just not like we used to. This statement is also only there because the poet raised money for the placement of the statue with the help of the poem. It wasn't always incorporated either, it wasn't until an associate of hers tried to recognize her involvement that the plaque was added in 1903. A piece used to persuade donations and not an endorsed government proclamation, only used to honor the poet's work.
Native Americans. They aren't perfect first time arrivals, we seem to forget they encroached on the territory of other tribes. I don't think I was from the original European settlers at all but if I were then that doesn't matter, I was born here and have just as much claim to land as them and since I'm a mutt I have no country to return to.
