Woman Raises Almost $400,000 For Homeless Good Samaritan...

Kate McClure (of Florence Township, New Jersey) ran out of gas on the exit ramp from Interstate 95 in Philadelphia.

A nearby homeless man, Johnny Bobbitt Jr., walked a few blocks to the nearest gas station and used his last $20 to buy gas for the stranded motorist.

She didn't have money to repay him at the time, but sought him out days later to give him the money. She also visited him a few more times to bring food and water.

She and her boyfriend created an online fundraiser page as a thank you and to try to help him get back on his feet. As of Tuesday afternoon, the fundraiser has raised more than $397,000.

Bobbitt served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a paramedic in Vance County, North Carolina, before he became homeless.

He just purchased a home and is looking into buying a truck as well. Bobbitt says he's donating some of his money to a grade school student who is helping another homeless veteran.

Bobbit said "The feeling is indescribable and (it's) all thanks to the support and generosity that each and every one of you has shown. I’ll continue to thank you every single day for the rest of my life."

So how long do you think it will be until the homeless guy is back out on the street. He wasn't on the street for lack of money and money won't keep him off the street either.

@hippyjoe1955 It’s a possibility but without trying and hope you never know... people can overcome and do amazing things

@yeronlyman I work with the homeless everyday. I never give up hope. However I knew one fellow that lived on the streets who had 1/2 a million dollars in the bank. When he died his daughter inherited it.

@hippyjoe1955 for someone who works with the homeless daily, you seem pessimistic , perhaps that’s your experience (i respect that) and would be interesting to know the stats

@yeronlyman Not at all. What I am saying is the money is little more than putting a bandage on cancer. The problem isn't lack of money and the solution isn't giving money. The problem is spiritual and must be approached spiritually.

@hippyjoe1955 I wouldn’t for one minute think money is the main solution... it’s mutlifactorial in nature and therefore a multifactorial, multimodal and multidimensional solution...

@yeronlyman Absolutely. We sometimes have to realize that some homeless people want to be homeless. It is their chosen lifestyle. Not one that I would pick but for a few that is what they want.
