Build trust between the two of you. Slowly instill trust in him by telling him something in confidence saying that you haven't shared it with anyone else but feel that you can trust him. Even ask him if you can trust him and then tell him he can trust anything with you if he ever wants. Give it time and you'll slowly see him opening up to you.
I've done that many many times and trust gets broken every time so no thanks @DanGerUs:
