Should they teach the 12 steps in k-12

given the level of addiction and drug use in HS and public school in general might it be wise to get students started off right.

Considering that the success rate of 12 step programs is AT MOST 5%, I don't think so. I have wondered why 12 step is basically the only thing offered to anyone with addiction issues ..considering that it often doesn't work, and most importantly, it has to be something the addict WANTS ..it's instead a huge business and makes a lot of people very rich. No, I would rather see art, music and drama, and creative writing offered more to k-12. I know that in my case, and many of my friends, those classes were our only salvation ..and a positive outlet . The whole way that addiction is treated medically is inadequate

@Medusa777 i like your answer and creative outlets might be more helpful. Part of the reason the 12 steps don't work as much as they could is that many addicts cant maintain sobriety long enough to work the steps. Perhaps circumventing the start of use might be helpful maybe as an elective class?

@cherokeepatti I agree, but if some states are requiring creationism to be taught in schools and some would agree that religion is literally a cult, is it any different?
