I think all we can do is control how we choose to react to it.

I choose happiness and contentment

To a certain degree but if your environment is a living nightmare I think you may find it quite difficult to wake up chipper every morning

Yes we need to not be victims and do something about the things that are causing us unhappiness

It's entirely our responsibility to be happy and have harmony.
