What is something you have experienced that wasn't what you hoped or expected it to be?

@tiltawhirl best answer in my opinion
When they tested which parts of my brain did what. You see they know about where each part of the brain is and roughly where certain functions are. They know the motor cortex (the part that controls bodily movement) is in your frontal lobe but they might not know where exactly it is and if they do they don't know which part controls the arm versus the leg etc.
So they had to figure out what the effects of cuttimg out the bad part were going to be so they could figure out if removing all of it was worth it.
To do this they had eletrodes placed on the surface of my brain and sent electrical impulses through them to trick my brain into doing whatever that part did.
I guess I thought it would feel like me doing the stuff consciously. Like I'd feel my use of the arm before I saw it move or maybe feel a zap in my head (I didn't know brains don't feel pain). Instead my arm would just twitch or jump up an inch without any warning or other sensation. I was very young so it freaked me out.
