Anyone ever have an extreme cleaning service?

I've been sick with a very debilitating illness (kidney and bladder infections leading to incontinence) which has caused the one room I live in to be overwhelmed by trash, junk and clutter. I spent about 6 weeks trying to bail out the trash and get my room clean but found I just couldn't do it. It is very embarrassing to me.

Finally, I realized I won't be able to do it. Just not feeling well most of the time. I am taking an antibiotic drug and that adds to my feeling tired. So I gave it some thought and decided to call an extreme cleaning service.

They will be here, this Monday morning, at 8:00AM. I am very nervous about it. For one thing, it's really embarrassing. I guess I'm afraid they'll lecture me and call me a hoarder or something like that, then I'll wind up on some TV show like Dr.Phil while the whole country sees how bad my room is. OK, I realize all that isn't likely to happen but just having people in here makes me feel vulnerable and nervous.

Another fear is that they're going to throw away things that got lost in my trash and clutter. For one thing, a couple of months ago, I lost a set of $2000 hearing aids. I am hoping they'll find them and not throw them out.

The last time I asked someone to help me clean a messy living space it was several years ago when I still lived in an apartment. I asked my literary agent to help. We wound up in a physical altercation because she tried to throw away some things that were important to me. (Old family photographs, my car registration papers, a check for $70, etc.). It seems as if anyone in my situation is automatically seen as psychotic.

Has anyone here ever been in a situation like this? Have you ever hired an extreme cleaning service? How did it go? Please tell me I won't wind up on Dr. Phil! I am not a hoarder or crazy, just overwhelmed with being sick, 75 years old, and alone in the world, no adult children or family nearby to help me. And drowning in clutter and trash.

I would clean your house for free. I did that for aunt recently and she is hoarder. Really stubborn about throwing things. I made her write a list before hand of things she wants to go through before we decide whether or not to throw or give them.

You must make peace with the fact that ALL things are expendable. If they have an emotional value, it is simply a symbol of it. It doesn't contain the value.

People are happier with less not more.

@Miram I agree. But I am not a hoarder. When I was well, I was able to maintain a reasonably tidy environment. I only hope they don't throw away my $2000 hearing aids which I really do need for my poor hearing; I am not "stubborn" about throwing things away. I guess one of my biggest fears is being stereotyped that way.

@greenmountaingal Love, I believe you. But you shouldn't fear being seen as hoarder. Be confident and take charge of your property and clearly explain that you need those hearing aids.

This is your house, your rules.

Also it is their job so they shouldn't complain.

I wouldn’t worry about it, just make it clear how important they are. I’m sure they’ve seen worse. they probably get more satisfaction helping you getting it sorted. 😌
