Some suggestions, please, for cleaning up a VERY messy room

My room is an awful mess...and I live in ONE rented room! So I need to clean it up and soon. I have a lot of trash around, a lot of clutter. And a lot of old empty wine bottles to put out into our recycle bin. When I get the trash and junk out, I will hire someone to sweep and wash my floor.

Anyone here ever deal with this kind of problem? I can use some suggestions and some encouragement. If I can't get it to look better, I could get thrown out of here. I like it here and don't want that to happen. Also, looking at my room is demoralizing. It's contributing to my current state of depression. I am 75 years old and arthritic so doing anything is hard most days.

Don't look at the room, look at a specific problem in the room. Something you can solve that day.

Because if you look at it all at once, there'll be a huge sense of defeat before you even start. But if it's just "Okay let's take out some bottles today" you'll be fine.

So just one task. Whatever is the most obvious and easiest. Done, you'll feel good about having done it. Care about the next thing the next day.

@CountScrofula Thank you. That is what I've been doing these last 2 days.
