"... the president persists in acting as if our schools are a hostile learning environment for girls, one that warrants aggressive federal intervention. Pressured by groups like the AAUW and the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), the White House recently announced [http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/06/20/obama-administration-commemorates-40-years-increasing-equality-and-oppor] that the Department of Education would be adopting a more rigorous application of Title IX to career, technology, and engineering programs in high school and college — to stop the alleged boy-favoritism that is shortchanging girls. To avoid federal investigations that threaten withdrawal of financial support, programs will simply enroll fewer males.
President Obama explained [http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/06/24/president-obama-reflects-on-the-impact-of-title-ix.html] his rationale in a Newsweek op-ed: “Let’s not forget, Title IX isn’t just about sports. . . . Title IX ensures equality for our young people in every aspect of their education. . . . I’ve said that women will shape the destiny of this country, and I mean it.” But it is our underachieving young men that destiny is leaving behind. Using the federal government’s power to unleash divisive gender politics on our schools is the last thing the president should be doing. ..."
Somers has written about how feminist misandry in the schools has been pushing down male performance in her book The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men. (If you know a schoolteacher, give her a copy of that book. I gave one to my cousin's daughter for Christmas after I learned she had gone into schoolteaching.) The White House's idea that American females are discriminated against academically, that there are "barriers to women’s academic achievement" and there is a need for coercive remedies, is preposterous. According to Obama, "There are always more barriers we can break and more progress we can make." So, under no circumstances will the narrative of female victimization be abandoned by the Left. If males don't do as well as females in language and social studies, well, that's just because females are better. However when females fall short of males in math, science, and technology, the idea that males may just be better at those things is unthinkable; no, it must be anti-female sexism at work.
Again, every man and every sensible woman who sees the folly of pushing down males should turn out to vote against Obama and to vote against his misandristic party at every opportunity.
