I Am More Observant Than I Let On

Talk To The Hand...
I am glad I never used the gesture "talk to the hand" randomly as I found out its true meaning.
" Talk to the hand because the ear is not listening"
"Talk to the hand because the face does not understand"
It is in fact quite a sarcastic gesture!

Wow. With that meaning, why is it offered on a site that asks us to respond with authenticity, support, and respect.

Not according to the information on Google.

OOPS!

The first time someone used that gesture to me I felt like I had been stabbed in the heart. I've never gotten used to how unnecessarily cruel people can be to each other when being civil is so much easier for both parties concerned. There's too much hurt in the world as it is: why add to it?

That was here in the states many years ago.
I have not heard it here for a number of years and I would be very happy if no one here used it again.

No, it certainly is not a gesture which promotes good relations!

You are so right. Just ignorant.
Barlong
... it's like read between the lines and showing your hand. ^_^
Either way, one insult someone. O.o
berangere · 80-89, F
Or quite impersonal.
Barlong
yeah

"Talk to the hand" is a gesture that is not conducive to finding common on ground in disagreements.
berangere · 80-89, F
Yes,it stops discussion and debate in their track.
Skyy7
I certainly wouldn't spend 5 tokens to tell someone I was through talking. More economical to just walk away. Lol

Luckily, I've never used that gesture, nor received it. Thanks, berangere.
