I Hate Mosquitoes
I do hate mosquitoes! Out of all the creatures on God's green earth, I have absolutely zero tolerance for those deadly, pesky little buggers. And with good reason! (see below). Where I live, they are a constant problem for at least half the year, no matter what you do. Despite diligently tumping out water on our property after it rains, we are plagued by them all summer long. I'm thinking about it because I just saw my first one of the season yesterday, and got my first bite today. Oh yeah--and they LOVE me! Of course they do! And I get huge, itchy, painful welts from their bites. Of course I do! If it were only that they were an uncomfortable nuisance though--I would leave them well enough alone. But considering that they are a deadly menace to humanity, I wage an all-out war! I don't hesitate to kill them at all! (and after all this practice, I'm an excellent shot). Of course, then I have to deal with the blood all over my ankles and hands (which is really gross), but I'd rather deal with that than deal with knowing they're still out there reproducing left and right only to terrorize and continue to threaten me and my family (and everyone else on this planet!). So I actually consider it my duty to help control their population in order to help protect human life. I'm just sad and frustrated it's started up again.馃槵
"What is the most deadly animal in the world? You might guess a top predator with big teeth like a shark or a lion or a crocodile. But really, the most deadly animal in the world is the mosquito. It might seem impossible that something so minuscule can kill so many people, but it's true. According to the World Health Organization, mosquito bites result in the deaths of more than 1 million people every year. The majority of these deaths are due to malaria.
No other species, including our own, is responsible for the loss of as many human lives each year as mosquitoes are. Humans murder around 475,000 other people each year. Snakes kill around 50,000, while dogs (mainly from rabies transmission) claim another 25,000 lives. Some of the most feared animals (sharks, wolves) kill fewer than 10. The top killer, the mosquito, however, tends to register as nothing more than an annoyance, much less something to be deathly afraid of.
The diseases that mosquitos carry and transmit to people they bite kill 725,000--a million people a year. Mosquitoes transmit many deadly diseases including Malaria, Dengue Fever, Yellow Fever, West Nile Virus, and most recently, the Zika Virus.
You might think you're only at risk if you live in Africa. However, many major cities of the world, especially in the Americas, are at risk of potentially devastating epidemics of yellow fever because they are infested with Aedes aegypti mosquitos which can transmit the disease (if that isn't scary!). Not to mention the numerous other mosquito-transmitted diseases that are already established in the US, like the West Nile Virus and the Zika Virus."
