@Cierzo You've just changed it, I know.

I promised myself I wouldn't talk politics on this site, but I have to agree with you. The GOP has completely gerrymandered the congressional electorate districts and no longer represent or are accountable to voters, which is why they just do nothing. And the Democrats stand (well they sit now) on the sidelines watching.
Two books on the topic are notable:
RatF*ck
This Town.

The first documents how the GOP with the help of big money, bought elections
The second explains that DC is like an insider's club. Once you're in, you're on
the gravy train and nothing matters more than making money. The Democrats
and Republicans are all the same.

Too bad we didn't get Bernie Sanders.

I will still vote. For Jill Stein.

But I really wonder what motivation milennials have to vote. I don't blame them if they don't.

When I was at college, Lemony, almost all the positions in the Student Union were held by the far left - only really because they were committed to their cause and willingly put in the hours to work towards it. Sadly, for them, it's 40 years on and the revolution still hasn't happened.

I voted for the first time in my life in the UK Brexit referendum - because it wasn't a question of voting for an undemocratic political party machine. Every single voter's opinion counted, regardless.

@Lemonysnicket: surely if no-one voted the no-one would be elected? Not a lasting solution obviously but it would send a very powerful message to "our masters (& mistresses lol!) that we're not playing their game any more. One of the most relevant things Nigel Farage said in the aftermath of the Brexit vote was that despite the huge sums of PUBLIC money Cameron threw at the Remain campaign, and despite all the "experts" they lined up to preach Armageddon, the public decided for themselves what THEY wanted. Like with Solidarity in Poland in the 1980s I think the repercussions of People Power will now be felt worldwide.
CierzoM
@ArtieKat. Understand. It is different in a referendum. If there was a referendum in my country to remain or leave the EU I would vote too. But this is not going to happen.
CierzoM
@Artiekat: Agree with you. Politicians need a 'we don't need you' message. We need more society and less politicians and state.

I do agree. But I'm mindful of various meetings I have attended over the years for various organisations. The chairman is elected and during their time there is nothing but moaning..telling them they're doing it wrong..bitching etc. So he steps down. And asks those very people which is willing to stand? *echoing silence*
I am not a natural leader I detest being in the limelight..but people who love it can be useful. They are necessary for direction and action.

So you're telling me if noone voted everything would change for the better?? Surely every politician must have a driving force of marketing and planning behind any campaign or how else will they get their message heard???
There were plenty of "experts" lined up for Brexit as well and although their version of Armageddon was very different both campaigns were driven to elicit fear.
(Please add an "l" to pubic or this thread could go completely off topic 馃槀)

What I think I'm saying is that such civil unrest - which, in reality, is not going to happen - would completely undermine the political classes. They NEED an audience for the sake of their inflated egos!

Clowdy, this post is about voting, not about profile pictures. Have you got nothing but cotton wool between your ears? Oh I see why you are clowdy now. Clowdy cloudy...don't blame you really for not being clear about things.
SW-User
It's sad to hear that..I understand what you are feeling but I still vote. Otherwise if no one voted what would happen?? Politicians will decide?? At this this way we have some choice
CierzoM
@Clowdy. This has been my profile pic since I joined SW. Believe what you want.

Clowdy: I took my profile picture from a music album cover.

Is it weird that you're a 41-45 year-old Spanish male with the profile picture of a former American female teenage EP user?
