I know a bit of what you're looking and for and the days you are yearning for. I miss those times on EP as well. I think their best days were before the metoo app which ruined it. The 2009 confessions app had no ill impact on it.
But we could have intimacy on EP. It could be found. It was possible to find the closeness, even among strangers, that we sought. Not anymore and not here and it's not entirety SW's fault. (although a large part is!)
EP had it's beta in 2006 and those that came, in all age ranges, came with intent of adhering to the premise of what EP wanted to be-and that was a support site. Not a spam site, or rip another to shreds site, and so many joined to contribute monthly--and the company grew. Those users were PC users for the most part as stupid phones were the norm. It was a joy to watch it grow and manifest itself. Mistakes and all. EP was not myspace and many liked that. However it remained niche and wished for the popularity LiveJournal (still around but owned by the Russians and NOT at all like it was in 2001) had.
Technology evolved and how we connected did as well. As well as what we said, thoughts were replaced bu memes, gif, letters and the like. AND the demographic USING Social media-all of it, changed. Not just EP which was forced into a metoo app. Support took back seat to sight gags, lyrics, thoughts (not even questions), rumours jokes. Gone was support, in were quick laughs and damn be anyone who was a victim of that laugh!
That app was 7 years ago and social media has denigrated into a cesspool of filth. Just look at twitter where men can be charged with rape without any proof, court records, police records and so on. The court of public opinion has replaced law and courts. A cesspool.
SW is a VERY NICHE site. It is still a microcosn of society and that is what needs blamed for the terrible behavioral online.
I know what you want and are seeking for. I am as well. I am also old enough to know those times are in the past and that things will get no better.
The "it's what you make of it" used to be true-on EP. But never here.
