when the need is there at the moment no

Annie1899 · 36-40, F
Let me explain... Sometimes girls ask for a bra before they're developed. I feel a bit different than MourningDove's mom. I think we spend too much of our lives in a bra. I'd rather put it off as long as possible.

My niece is 8 and she's already needing a training bra. So, whenever you feel she needs one would be the logical answer when it comes to something like this. I think I started wearing bras when I hit 5th grade. I fully developed around 6th grade. Now mine are huge lol. I started getting my period around the same time.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@butterfly1013 Hi. I just came across this. How are you doing now? And how is your niece? She must be around 13 now.
butterfly1013 · 26-30, F
@Annie1899 Yes, she is 13. Will be 14 next month. She's ... .complicated, but seems like she may be starting to get it together.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@butterfly1013 Complicated id s complicated word. :) I'm glad she's getting better.
MrsxSarahAnne · 51-55, F
I know this is an old topic, but my daughter(13) likes the sports bras that they make for girls, especially Justice.

Do it when you think she needs one. Some of her friends developed earlier and have both boys and men looking at her.
Clairebare · 26-30, F
I don't think she should have a bra until she absolutely needs one. A lot of my friends wear padded bras just so they can get more attention from boys and look like they got more than God gave them. The problem is, then you gotta wear one all the time or everyone will know you were faking. So it's just a vicious circle.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
She liked your approval and feeling grown up. Do you remember at what point you decided she needed a bra?
Eyesropen · 61-69, C
I didn't want her to feel creeped out by strange men and boys staring at her. I know that girls and boys often play show and tell with their friends, which is a different story and I would hope a safer and more positive experience for her.
mathsman · 70-79, M
It was her own decision
She preferred that I went rather than her mum.
RisingVirginia · 31-35, F
When she needs one. Doesn't that seem like the most obvious answer? It is. If my child is 14 and doesn't need a bra, she won't have one... If my daughter is 9 and is developed and needs a bra, then I will get her some. It's a bra, there's nothing inappropriate about it.
@annie i did hate wearing it!
And to this day I hate them. lol
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@Clairebare That's a really good point. I hadn't even thought of that.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
Spoiling and going along with what everyone else is doing (if it doesn't make sense) is what I try to avoid.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@Virginia, thankfully you didn't receive that 6-year-old training bra. lol
RisingVirginia · 31-35, F
Yes, but if you're raising your daughter with sense and morals that shouldn't even be a problem. A bra should serve a purpose and you teach her that. Although, God knows what she'll learn at school.
margret1980 · 41-45, F
Some girls ask for a training bra, other's don't. Parents will have different views on this, and i think such diversity is fine. Me, personally wouldn't allow a girl to wear a bra before she really needs it for matters of decency.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@margret1980 That's the way we ended up doing it.
mathsman · 70-79, M
That's the way I remember it though it was quite a while back.
She liked me seeing her in just her bra and panties.
UniquelyPink · 41-45, F
My daughter wears a training bra already she is 9, I think it's good practice and nice to be proactive
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
Awww. That's so sweet. It sounds like its as clear as it happened yesterday.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@MourningDove That's what I mean. There are alternatives. At what point do you think you truly needed a bra?
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
I'm not a woman, but I think when she asks for one or when her nipples are visibly poking out against her top and people begin to frequently notice, it's time to consider getting her a bra.
whateverhappens · 26-30, F
saw this at the sides, my cousin is 8 & she's wearing one
whateverhappens · 26-30, F
she is just starting out so she has a little bitty lol, but my aunt is hellbent on her wearing a trining bra
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
That sounds extreme to me.
whateverhappens · 26-30, F
it is ridiculous, but she's on the chubby side , but my aunt sees the need for it 😩
jillluvsgirls · 26-30, F
@Virginia, thankfully you didn't receive that 6-year-old training bra. lol

when it's time you should really get her a brand new bra! ;-)
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@Mrs-SarahAnne I'm hearing a lot of good things about sports bras. Did you mean to say that the men and boys are looking at her friends?
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
That makes sense.Does she wear it much when she's at home?
MrsxSarahAnne · 51-55, F
I let her slide in the morning if she hasn't taken her shower yet or some of the days ealier this summer that were so hot IF she was staying at home. But otherwise, I make her wear something. That makes me the evil bra-mom.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
Well, she did say she wanted one. lol To be like her friends. :)
karenof4 · 36-40, F
agreed when she needs one
I don't have daughters but my mother put me in a training bra before i hit puberty so I'd be used to wearing one.
Eyesropen · 61-69, C
My daughter wanted one long before she needed it, and because we had moved, she was always the youngest girl in her class....
as soon as they was showing i felt it was the right thing to do

How old was she when you first put her in a bra? And how did you decide that it was time?

Where she's at the age when she looks like she needs one.
mathsman · 70-79, M
Yes I went with her and she showed it to me, on, when we got home, the straps were hurting.
karenof4 · 36-40, F
just wait till you think she needs them
mathsman · 70-79, M
My step-daughter asked me to go with her for her first bra-fitting at age 11.
SW-User
I got my first at 12 when I needed one.
RisingVirginia · 31-35, F
As you should
kaf9292 · 80-89, M
Never. This is an unhealthy garment.
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
Annie, has your daughter continued to ask for a bra? Did you take her shopping for one or is she waiting until she really needs one?
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
We've talked about it, and decided to wait until she really needs one.
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
@Annie1899: That's good. It probably won't be much longer. Waiting will help teach her to be patient and to wait for things she wants instead of seeking instant gratification.
The women in my family are generally speaking, "well-endowed" at an early age, so we were bought bras when it was appropriate. And it was, fairly soon. It was difficult enough being ogled by boys and men at age 12, I'm grateful that I wasn't also bouncing around braless. ☺️
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@SweetStacy
@butterfly1013

What if they weren't in training bras?
RisingVirginia · 31-35, F
Yes, I agree, that is why I said wait until she needs one. Why allow her to have one before? That's also why I mentioned even if my 14 year old had nothing I wouldn't allow her to wear a bra. I wanted one at 6 because I thought it was "cool"... Little idiot, hah.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
@johnvictorcook What made you decide it was time, though? ·
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
That's sweet. Were you able to help her?

Annie1899 · 36-40, F
How did that turn out?
mathsman · 70-79, M
@Annie1899: wonderful
She loved showing it.
Annie1899 · 36-40, F
For sure.
mine was in by 9 as both my girls are big and developed at a young age as did there mother
RisingVirginia · 31-35, F
Yes, thankfully but a girl at school had one, that's why we all thought it was cool. Her mother was obviously very silly. But she was a brat, so spoiled no doubt.
