Nietzsche's Daybreak, is full of perceptive little gems, like this one on the subject of politeness, the word salve however i think is a dated word, like a band aid, one is polite as opposed to being harsh, but how does it all work when one is two or more, well let Herr Nietzsche give a little tinsy winsy hint....:)

Condition for politeness - Politeness is a very good thing and in fact one of the cardinal virtues (if the last one): but if it is not to make us burdensome to one another, he with whom I have to do has to be a degree more or a degree less polite than I am - otherwise we shall get nowhere, and the salve will not only salve us but stick us together.

His view of politeness is soothing, a rest from the struggles in life. Not what one would expect from Nietzsche.

Soothing indeed are many of his views which would seemingly be contrary to his public persona :)
