Let me tell you a story from Indian history. Give me your perspectives on this guy.

So there was this cruel king from the Kingdom in Pataliputr (present day Patna, India) in the third century BC. His name was Nand. He insulted a person from the priest class named Chanakya. This guy was a mastermind. He goes to a village, finds a teenage kid called Chandragupt Maurya. He trains this kid, makes him able and then attacks the Kingdom of Nand, defeats him and installs Chandragupt as the king. This guy goes on to start the largest Indian Empire to ever exist.

So this guy Chanakya was definitely using this kid to fulfil his own interests. But his interests benefited this kid as well. Of course no deed in the world is a selfless deed but in this case, the kid barely had a choice and was just used. Would you think this act of Chanakya was justified for the kid ? What if he wanted to be something else ? What if Chanakya had failed ? Something to think about.

I think justification had more to do with than the two people. He trained the kid for war. Was the war justified? I'd say if it was over a petty insult, then it was not. If the war was it justified, then a lot of people died over a man's pride.

@MasterofNone what made him a cruel ruler? Was the new ruler less cruel? If the old ruler was that cruel, why did it take an insult for the priest to take action? Why did he allow the cruelty to others and only act after it affected himself?

From the information I see this far, the priest was not reasonably justified.

@ViciDraco I think so too. By "as we know" I meant the historical sources tell us Chandragupta Maurya was not a cruel ruler by any means.
