No, I had no idea, lived in a tiny farming town (population 100 - counting the dogs :)), had no money for college, and was, until I came upon the idea of joining the military, drifting in a bad direction. Joined the Army, started in on getting a degree at night, and for 20 years I had the most amazing life. Yes, there were the bad times (war sucks), but other than that, I got paid to learn, get a degree, travel the world, and see and learn things I'd never dreamed of. After that I was lost again for a moment, but found another career I enjoyed, and went with that until I retired. Sometimes it takes a bit of going with the flow, or it did for me, and it all worked out well.
@frequentlyme 😊 neat thanks for that insight.

Oh, I figured it out about 15 years ago. I was in school and had a plan to make it happen. Along the way I made choices that have made it pretty much impossible to achieve at this point.
So here I am in retail.

@Stark I worked in a related for a little while, so it’s mostly okay.
The hardest part is seeing my former clients at my current job. They love to tell me that I’m wasting my calling.

Yes. No. I changed to the patient care aspect, because medical administration is boring.

I started out by being a science major & going to Dental School....then dropped out. A few years later, my younger sister decided to go to Law School. I took the entrance exam & did well. I graduated from Law School and ended up working as an attorney for over 30 years.

Honestly I wanted to be a cop, then swat team. Then I just drifted in another direction and here I am making landing gear for airplanes 😅

No I'm just assuming I'm gonna die soon so I don't worry about it

Yes, but I also don't limit myself to just that. Open to new possibilities. :)
@SW-User what was it?

@Stark Something centered around Law Enforcement. What that will be specifically? I'm not sure but I will find my niche. :)
At the moment, I'm studying forensics and criminal justice.

I kinda just fell into my career, I didn't think I would be coding.
@JarJarBoom how did you come across it ? Was it only suppose to be a temporary job ? Or did you just end up liking it?
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
@Stark I just graduated from college for something unrelated and the company was looking for someone to help update their website and my school called me. So then I contacted the company and asked what they needed help on and they told me a few things and said that they'll pay me a flat rate and I'll be considered self-employed. So I was doing website changes on top of my regular job but I got all of the updates done and they were impressed and hired me right away.
@JarJarBoom interesting thanks jarjar this actually helps more than you think 😂

I still don’t really know what I want to be but HR has been on the list for a while.
@summersong you seem like you have a good career now, do you enjoy it ?
summersong · F
@Stark I do most of the time. I actually do a little bit of accounting and facility management too so it never gets boring lol

Yes, when I finally started teaching ESL at 28, I knew it was what I was meant to do.

I was in IT for over 30 years ...
@AllAboutLaffs did you want to do that?
AllAboutLaffs · 70-79, M
@Stark When I started, I didn't think of it as a life goal ... but it was interesting and challenging and the career developed from there. If I could do it all over again, I might have developed a career in Landscape Architecture.
the first time i figured it out, i told my dad—it's a question he had been asking me all my life, after all. anyway, i told my dad with absolute sincerity that i wanted to be a teacher and he ..laughed... lol
