What Is The Earliest Memory You Have From Childhood?

Mine is very vivid. I was around four years old, it was Christmas and I was in my footy jammies (yes, I said that). In the living room, the tree was all lit up and off to one side, circling the coffee table was a Lionel Train Track with a full set of train cars on it. I was so excited, got by the couch but had no idea how to start the thing. Mom flipped a switch and that distinct metal on metal sound started up, the train came streaming around the corner and I realized I was on the track, leaping up onto the couch behind me I watched in amazement as the train went whistling by scared and thrilled at the sight. Had some pics of that morning taken too and for a long time, I thought I was "remembering" it all from just those pics, but the memories I have are from my view point, not the pictures off to the side.

That's my earliest one. What's yours?

Will be back later to check, just thought I'd throw this out there. Hope you're all doing well today.
Three years old. Father was supposed to be watching me, but obviously wasn’t.
I decided to cut my own hair, throwing it in the toilet. Toilet overflowed when flushed. He caught hell from my mother when she returned.

@CereBellum Thanks for the share and I think most fathers would have caught hell too. I know I would have, when I was married.

I must’ve been about 3. I went to my great-grandmother’s house with my grandparents and we found her dead in the bathroom. I distinctly remember sitting on her couch while the paramedics came and picked up her body, looking at the art on her walls.

@summersong Wow, that's a sad and powerful one to have. I am sorry for the loss even if it was long ago. Thank you though for sharing it.

Not my earliest memory but one from my childhood

Climbing my father's shed as a boy, to play,
to dry in the sun after a run through the sprinklers,
to pick red, ripe, wild cherries and sit and eat and watch the sky redden as the evening sun goes down.

To stand on the edge hands held crossed against your chest with eyes closed leaning slightly forward so that you can feel the hair raising experience of free falling without actually falling and then jumping down and learning how to absorb the impact of the fall with your feet so that it doesn't hurt when you land and running back and climbing up again paying special attention to where you first place your hands so they don't touch one of the sun-beaten brown weather`d nailheads that burn and will leave blisters on your skin.

To stand on tippy-toes and look over the neighbors fence at the one black and one spotted dog and you name the black one Savi and the spotted one Spot-ta-cus and them jumping around over each other barking excitedly everytime you peek over the fence and them always already staring back at you and you wanting to jump the fence and climb into their kennel to wrestle with them.

To lay down and fall asleep under the baking sun and dream about the girl from school and you and you were both driving somewhere in a car you don't recognize going through foreign scenery that is nowhere in your imagination and no-where, as far as you know, here on
earth. ~Lostpoet

@Lostpoet Sounds like some great memories.

@MrPerditus1 He still has those sheds we tore down the cherry tree though and the neighbors probably moved out and the dogs are probably dead by now, but yeah I spent a lot of time on top of that shed my dad hated it when us boys would climb up it.

That’s sweet. 🙂

I think mine was also when I was four. I tried feeding my doll a popsicle, so there was a mess on her face. Ants ended up all over her, so I left her on the sidewalk and ran back to the apartment. Never saw the doll again. 😔

MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@SW-User Awwww, I remember leaving a lot of my toys out or at a friends and forgetting where they were. But at least your doll got a popsicle. :) Thank you for that share.
I was three playing with a neighbor kid and my siblings. (Twin brother and older Sister) My big sis fell and skinned her knee and it bled. She licked it and I thought she was going to die. I ran home to tattle on her. 😂😂

My earliest childhood memory?
Well, sadly it is no good one.

I was 1 year and 9 months old and on a stair to a book store on my mother´s hand. And suddenly I started to get dizzy.

It was the first dizziness attack in my life, and since this day I got it again and again, my whole life, until toay. 😑

I slid my head through the iron grill on our third floor balcony and it got stuck. I thought that was permanent and yelled a lot. Much later i was coaxed to stop yelling so i closed my mouth and the head slid back in. I must have been 3 or 4. 😄😄😄

nothing good unfortunately
MrPerditus1 · 61-69, M
@TexChik I'm sorry. It's not always easy and I hope my question didn't bring up anything too hard.
