Hows anyones mother actually read them a bed time story?

Yes.
And I've been doing it for my own kids for over 17 years. My youngest is 7 now, so I'm hoping to squeeze another year or two.

@ProdigalSummer: my heart
Not mine. My grandmother would occasionally.

My mom took me twice to buy books back before I was in school ( and never after) . She read each one to me twice and that was the end of that. but.... I was able to read from the time I was 3 or 4 so I guess it was more about entertaining myself than interacting with her.

I don't know about anyone else but as a father I frequently read a bedtime story to my children...I worked a swing shift and when I wasn't there my wife would. My Mom read to me as well...I learned to love reading long before I ever entered a classroom.

I do remember a few times when I was young and I found it annoying.
