Ugh yes I don't know why it's a flavor people get so into. It's less chocolatey chocolate with ketchup in it.

When it is well made, with beet, it can taste good.
But most of the red velvet cake is just over rated.

It's glorified chocolate. Overrated.

It's a chocolate cake with red stuff. So if it doesn't taste of chocolate, it's a shitty cake.

I'm with you. I don't get it.

It's got buttermilk in the recipe which adds a bit more flavor and the cream cheese icing is really rich so that combo. The red food color doesn't do anything for the flavor. The schools used to make a cake for lunch called "Beatnik cake"...like a red velvet cake except they colored it with pureed canned beets instead of artificial food dye.

It's just chocolate.

lol, I think it's very tasty! The one I'm not impressed with is king cake like they eat in New Orleans.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Yes I think it is a trend soon to pass .
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
it came back over 5 years ago and hasn't passed yet. It was also popular in the 60's
