Why is post partum depression so crippling....

Hormones are all fucked up. I have been there. Positive vibes sent your way.

Don't be afraid to tell your doctor either. I had to do that, shit got dark after birth.
My strong recommendation: find a support group and talk to your doctor.

I've never understood depression. I imagine it is all the hormones and chemicals the body makes for normal use all out of whack. It just jacks with normal thinking. It's not a fault to blame it just happens.

I just had a touch of it . They were worried that it might be severe due to my PTSD. Only a few days of tears then it passed . Hang in there . It will pass

Your body has been through a lot, add lack of sleep and a lot of screaming into the mix and it's a wonder any of us survive.
