Why are conservatives hell bent on sending kids back to school?

I thought public schools were greasy little marxism brain washing factories? lol
pknein · 46-50, M
stop requiring logical consistency.. thats against my freedom.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@pknein argh, my bad! I keep forgetting lol
They don't care about anyone but themselves as usual.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@latinbutterfly it be like that tho
Because they treat school as a defacto baby-sitting service; it frees up mothers (or primary parenting fathers) to go back to work. That keeps people earning and off the dole, and it keeps profits and economies circulating. Then the government gets into less debt over social services.
Essentially, conservatives value financial prosperity over health, life and death. They don't mind a 1% death rate (or that many survivors of the disease have long-term health problems and sometimes disabilities and brain damage,) as long as the economy thrives.
@NoahB True. I've already seen that pattern happening here. Kids become the source of community transmission - younger people catch the virus at a greater rate in the subsequent waves.
Ynotisay · M
@hartfire I think it's clear that lost lives are considered collateral damage by some.
@Ynotisay Unfortunate - but yes - exactly the same as attrition in war. :(
curiosi · 61-69, F
The mental health of the children is suffering, they need to go back to being kids.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@curiosi okay but what about the children who have parents they depend on for income and protection?
curiosi · 61-69, F
@NoahB I hated every minute of my childhood, the pain, torture, beatings etc. But you know what?? It made me have compassion. Something most know nothing about!!!
NoahB · 26-30, M
@curiosi err.... im happy for you! but it doesn't really answer my question...
Ynotisay · M
They don't know what the hell they want. They just want to whine and yell. They've been trained to fight against their own best interest. And that's fine AS LONG as they're the only ones getting screwed. That's not the case right now.
Whatever’s going on, they’re against it...if there were a push among liberals to open all the schools, you can bet conservatives would be accusing them of irresponsibility and “the left” trying to harm their children. 😒
NoahB · 26-30, M
@bijouxbroussard I suppose the term "reactionary" is apt then. always reacting haha
@NoahB Exactly. 😉
jackson55 · M
@bijouxbroussard Whatever conservative's are for liberals are aginst. and visa versa. I don't think there will be agreement on much no matter who wins the election.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Because they want their parents back out there earning money and paying taxes.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Picklebobble2 yeah I mean thats ultimately the reason but its funny to see still
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@NoahB Won't be if it all goes wrong and parents or Teachers start dropping dead as a result !
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Picklebobble2 no i reckon that'll be a real 'bummer' as they say
It's about the money for the leadership, and not the lies they spout for the base.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@MistyCee hmmmm i feel like there is a better way to make money... it rhymes with "fax the pitch!"
@NoahB lol.
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Because that’s where they’re supposed to be.
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Supposedly you can’t be reinfected @NoahB
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Chevy454 well i supposedly hope youre right
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Pretty sure I am@NoahB

Umm... its the law... 🤷‍♀️
@Pikachu Case in point??? At the end of the day, the government knows that some children aren't getting a basic education at home - some of the poorest don't even have access to the Internet - so, how do you propose that these children are educated to any standard, much less the standard required to satisfy the law.

Some parents never even bothered to read the child's assigned reading book with them before Covid19 - do you think that they will educate their own offspring now???
@HootyTheNightOwl

Then maybe it's finally time to make internet like water and electricity since it's really a necessary resource at this point.
But the fact is that it's just not safe to put kids back in classrooms.
It sucks that some kids are being failed by their parents but classrooms are literally breeding grounds for disease at the best of times (ask any teacher) much less during a pandemic.

The risk is too great and it's irresponsible to pretend otherwise.🤷‍♀️
@Pikachu I see and agree with your concerns... I was just trying to argue for the other side, too.

I'm worried that there will be a second peak as the weather cools in September and schools are going to take a battering from this virus - of course, the children will take it home and its going to hammer those who were on the vulnerable people's list since March.

We need to improve home access to the Internet for those on welfare and the lowest earners so that they can access home education and search for jobs at home - until then, these people are forced to take stupid risks or get pushed further into hardship.
Madeleine · 41-45, F
Kids need to socialize agian.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Madeleine i bet they miss their friends
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
I’m sure. Must suck ass!!!@NoahB
Keeper · M
They are, but when both parents have to work in order to pay the bills and taxes (including school)...it's tough to be a stay at home teacher as well
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Keeper hmmmmmmmmm there might be another solution to this, no?
Keeper · M
@NoahB depending on what numbers and data the main stream media presents...because no one can think for themselves anymore.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Keeper ah the mainstream media. what a headache lol
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Cognitive dissonance.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Starcrossed a common malady
