What is it with Catholicism and the abuse of children?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Eternity It’s their way or the highway with them. They are autocratic teachers and they’ve punished children to death in Indian boarding schools both here in the USA and Canada. I’ve heard stories from older Natives here in Oklahoma.

@Eternity @Eternity they were frustrated. Never say they can't make you learn. At first I was afraid not to do my homework

@Eternity nothing like that happened at my school. the discipline was tough at times but they tried to make sure the tuition was well spent. I've heard em tell guys in high school their money could be better spent somewhere else. Right before they got the boot. I got kicked out of high school twice 9th and 10th. I went on in the Marines. It was easier.

The first time I saw a nun, I screamed and fought my friends off who were dragging me into the church play group. I ran home crying. I was about 5-6 years-old. The black habit frightened the life out of me.

@Carissimi I saw a young priest here in my city at a grocery store & I was an adult, made eye contact with him & believed instantly that he was a very evil person.

Some people have that affect on us. @cherokeepatti

@Carissimi I remember first grade kids bolting for the door after their parents left. some were gone the rest of the day. I made it till Thursday before I tried it. The for was locked. dammit. My first grade teacher was pretty nice. Sister Beverly. now third grade Sister Agustus was mean we h thought. She's the one that, after I told her I didn't know where my coat was at, she would say between the a and t on prepresition street.(did I spell that right?) She once marked a word incorrect because the I had a bit of a loop in it. she said I thought it was an E. That got always aced spelling tests and spelling bees. We just learned cursive the year before.

No I don’t by the grace of God. My father was planning on putting us kids in a Catholic boarding school before I started 5th grade. I looked it up in the encyclopedia and closed it up and said “There’s going to be trouble & I’ll get beat because I’ll never go along with their theology”. Plans got changed & didn’t have to go to one. But heard from other girls my age how the nuns liked to slap their hands with rulers, said they were really mean.

@cherokeepatti some were. frustrated they went and took a vow to give up sex while they were still virgins.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@kentex35 Could be but the priests were a lot meaner. And they’d rape children, it was common I’m sure of that. So much coming out now about it. They’ve found cemeteries with Native children buried that were forced into boarding school homes, dead from being abused.
Not a nun, but my grandmother. That crap hurts like hell.

I sure do and I felt that ruler too.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
I have been there.

@DragonFruit I got the belt in grade school the priest who was principal of high school slapped me once but we were laughing at him. A nun open hand slapped me in 7th grade. I was in trouble but started laughing and I couldn't stop true. She thought I was laughing at her. Next PTA my dad asked to go (parents divorced) and he went right up and asked her if she wanted to try that shit on him.
