Do atheists end up not committing as much sin as they would otherwise do, in order to have a margin of safety, so as to not get really screwed in case

There did turn out to be a God?

They definitely don't at all. Hell, about half of the religious people even approach that problem by merely having less self-awareness about their own behavior rather than by modulating it.

Just as theists/religious people do commit some sins too in case there isn't any ..?
Success · 26-30, F
@elafina Clever girl.
Nomad7 · 22-25, M
@elafina No, they don't do it because they think they're missing out. They do it because the Bible has impossibly high standards lol

just because we don't believe in god doesn't mean we don't have morals.

if we can all agree that everyone's health and well being are most important then everything that improves them is moral and anything harmful is immoral.
Nomad7 · 22-25, M
@NeloAngelo True, but this warrants a separate discussion. Besides, morals or a lack thereof aren't always determined by religious beliefs

I'm an atheist but my reasoning for trying not to commit sins is because I think it's wrong, not because I wanna be safe in case there's a god
Nomad7 · 22-25, M
@BlueMetalChick So who cares if it's wrong or not? And if someone did you some great harm, what would you do about it? And where does the wrong or right come from? Who will get you the justice? If you can't get it legally and there is no God to give it to you, what would you do to ensure that the perpetrator suffers?
CrustyDDingus · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick 😏 You got a real heart o' gold.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Nomad7 It's wrong because it harms others. To force your will upon another is wrong because it causes suffering, not because God says so. It's a terrifying thought that people exist who think that, were god to change his mind, they would think it's acceptable to hurt people.
