*My younger brother was born. (* I was born in January, 1955 - he came along 10 months later and I wasn't quite a year old yet.)

Watergate began, the Vietnam war ended, Bobby Fischer became the first American chess grand master and the Price is Right aired for the first time.

Well the biggest and most important one was already stated. My birth. We celebrate every year.
Not nationally mind you but it should be.
