I swear so many people in the United States forget there are other countries

And don't make an effort to learn anything about them if they do 🤷‍♀️

Brits always worry about what America does . America first means just that .
Half the people in America know about other countries, science, history, facts, intellectual pursuits, that racism and hate and willful ignorance are wrong.....and half are Trump voters. Did that help explain anything to you?

It has long been a fact of human nature that the people of the leading nation think of themselves as "exceptional": literally, above the rest and the elite. The Romans did it. The British had a turn, And the French still carry a little in their souls. So its not so much that Americans dont know there are other countires. Its just that other countries dont count unless they have something America wants, like oil.

I am an American...I am quite aware of the other countries of this world, I do know a little bit about some of them and am willing to learn more when the occasion arises. However, THIS is where I live, and the chances I'll ever visit one or more of these other countries (let alone live there) is remote at best. I do find other countries and cultures interesting and I enjoy learning something new when I can, but I don't study them and I don't go out of my way to concern myself with it.
Not this week. It’s spring break!

There are other countries?

I imagine you see a pretty large percentage of that behavior in any country. There are plenty of countries that have strong nationalistic societies that are focused inward and I'm not even sure I would put the U.S near the top of that list.

That's not true about me.

America is a continent — not a country.
@SW-User Technically it’s two continents. North and South. I’m not really sure where central lies.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@SW-User Which continent is that?
[Canada may want some input.]
SW-User
@Budwick I was referring to North America, which includes Canada.
My country first. Such generalizations!!

I'm not sure about the learning part but they definitely do forget and it's annoying being asked why I'm not asleep when it's morning here or what I'm going to do for the day when my day is over 🙄

@Starsandfire and funny how it's just Americans, not anyone else
Starsandfire · 31-35, F
@SW-User yes it is. I think a lot of the world is used to Americanisms. My husband is Australian and says "pants" for trousers and "yo-gurt" 🤣
SW-User
@Starsandfire eh that's learned behavior from your environment. It's prob how most people are 😂

American way is the only way

Jkjk 😂
Right? Also about 99.9% of them don’t even know anything about their own country either. Which is also pretty embarrassing. 🤦🏽‍♀️

@SW-User ?
They sure know how to vacation though
XReaganX · 26-30, F
Ok not all of us are stupid. Lol
There are plenty of countries in the Americas, too. Many more than the United States.
Starsandfire · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard sigh...ok I corrected my question. I know little more than those I scorn, but at least I do know that?
@Starsandfire People generally seek knowledge about things they perceive a need to know about, or that they believe affect them personally. I’m interested, and occasionally travel, so I try to educate myself.
Did something in particular prompt this post ? 🙂
