Only 25% of us Americans can find our country on a world map. I think this is because schools don't teach geography anymore.

Were you taught geography in school? We had a whole year on world geography in 7th grade.
Zoeoz · 26-30, F
Yes, but I also don't believe that only 25% of Americans can pick our country out on a world map.
Troy123 · 22-25, M
@Zoeoz I've seen that stat mentioned many time on the news. I also look it up online. One good source for things like that is the CIA FACT BOOK on the wed. They have many interesting things.
Zoeoz · 26-30, F
@Troy123 There are a lot of purported statistics out there, but it's important to pay attention to the source. If it were in a Gallup poll, I'd be convinced. From someone on YouTube likely sensationalizing their videos to get more clicks? Not so much.

CIA World Factbook is a good source for questions of geography and history from an American perspective, but as far as I am aware, they don't conduct surveys to answer questions like this.

@Zoeoz They has stats on America's placing and rank of our students in subjects like math compared to the rest of the world. Many interesting things.
One more time, there are no wild Kangaroos in Austria.

may be true... considering democrats seem to think Mexico is a state... 🤔
MarkA · 56-60, M
I bet they could all find there way to the nearest fast food outlet though.
You don't need to be taught geography to know what your country looks like on a map, and where it is on the planet fgs, you just need a very light sprinkling of brain cells and a pair of eyes

Does nobody watch weather forecasts on TV?
Troy123 · 22-25, M
@MarkA No. Most people are watching Ancient Aliens on what used to be a good channel and celebrity interviews bon late night talk shows.
MarkA · 56-60, M
How sad. Millions of people who couldn't tell you where their own country is.
What would happen if they ever went abroad? They'd never get home again 😂
Are you telling me america is a country & not a planet?

User41 · 36-40, M
I don’t get it.

How can you miss the only country that matters?
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
@User41 I don't get how they can miss it when it's like shown absolutely everywhere.

Even better! I’m glad you had great parents!

Too brainy can crank out some serious social weirdos! Or a scientist. Scientist not so bad. @SW-User
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
Those 25% may have some severe mental deficiencies.
Mindful · 56-60, F
Troy123 · 22-25, M
@TeirdalinFirefall The subject of Social Studies has replaced geography and in some cases, history.
Geology is racist...
Troy123 · 22-25, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout And geology has what to do with geography?

Lostpoet · M
Yes we were taught world geography in school.
That’s because Americans think they ARE the world.
SW-User
@IllusoryKindness no. We know who we are.
And they have a terrible sense of humour.
texasdaddydom · 51-55, M
what is your country?
Troy123 · 22-25, M
@texasdaddydom The USA.
texasdaddydom · 51-55, M
@Troy123 yeah finding that 3/4 fail to be able to find it is hard to believe...off to google
edit* as I thought that number is bullshit worst study states 11% cannot find which is bad enough but not nearly as atrocious...guess what memes and state pageant questions are not studies.
Troy123 · 22-25, M
