Are Americans prepared for the increase in their cost of living due to Trumps latest tariffs?

SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
Well, I hear that a few items will be exempt from the tariffs (like Apple products) so maybe we’ll be okay.

Anyway, lotsa people (not me) have had bonuses and pay raises because of the tax reform so it’ll balance itself out. It’s a no-win/no-lose situation. Oh well. Back to the grindstone.

@TJNewton Counting down the days till he is gone. I don’t think he’s going anywhere soon tho.

Good question. Are Americans also prepared to lose entire industries due to unfair trade arrangements?

Why did our government impose minimum wage and other costly standards on US companies while encouraging unrestricted imports from countries that exploit their workers. The AVERAGE monthly wage in China is $1,400. "Average" means many workers earn less than that. MINIMUM wage in some parts of the US are $1,800 a month.

For a zinger, I suggest checking China's laws regarding labor unions and compare them to the US. Labor unions in China are a component of the Communist Party and not self directed. They are run by the employers themselves and are not allowed to strike. In essence they are more like employee clubs than what we think of as labor union.

The math behind trade with China and other communist countries was simple. Import cheap consumer goods made by exploited workers in sweatshops and make them affordable to Americans on welfare and other entitlement programs. And where does the US government get the money to pay all those entitlements? Easy answer: they borrow it from the Chinese government.

Watch the cost of imports soar as a result !
NONE of this will change UNTIL government starts to insist that companies use that money for it's intended purpose and hire more folk.

But that's the ONE conversation EVERY western government is avoiding !
(Can't piss off the very people who donate now, can you !)

It'll be fine.....Until somebody somewhere tries to do a deal on something they want at a discounted price.
The company will refuse and that will start a run on the stock market and the fallout from THAT will make the '08 'crisis' look like a drop in the ocean !

Be prepared for yet more cuts to all services as a result ! ESPECIALLY if it's the BANKS who end up bailing THEM out !!!
Any community college burnout that took macro economics 101 has a better understanding of economic policy than trump and his entire cabinet.
I thought the tax break for the rich was supposed to encourage companies to pay hire wages.

@Spoiledbrat trickle down economics rarely work, if at all.

Wages have remained stagnant for decades. So it'll cost them for sure
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User According to Trump, people have recently received bonuses and pay raises because of his tax reform.
SW-User
@SimplyTracie Companies used the tax cuts to buy back their stocks. It made their stocks stronger, therefore, allowing themselves to get bonuses. The majority of stock owners are also the 1%, so the stock boom made the 1% richer.

Look at this chart. Wages have been stagnant for 40 years. Trump has done nothing that hasnt been done before. Bush and Reagan lowered taxes and wages still remained stagnant. HELL! Even Obama lowered the taxes of the rich. And nothing happened. It's all BS

@SW-User I get it but your talking to the choir. Trump keeps repeating the tax cuts over and over thinking that I’m gonna buy into his BS. I ain’t buying.
All they care about is easy access to guns and barbecued pork.
@lorelei You forgot pink plastic yard flamingos and beer.
