Can employer verify I’m in (or not in) the hospital?

Hello,
I am scheduled to have a csection in 5 days. I worked up until I feel like what was the end (2 days ago). (Blood pressure was high, Doctor put me on bedrest) My work had a hard time accepting that I might take off a week before due date (it’s like the implement didn’t get I‎t, kept piling working on me expected me to come to these long events) so I lied and told them that I might be having the baby earlier... well, I’m getting texts from my sweet but nosy boss everyday asking for pictures. I finally had to tell her, hey we aren’t having the baby probably for a few more days. Her response was you should still come to the company Christmas party! I didn’t know how to respond so I lied and said I’m in the hospital until the c section next week. Now they are wanting to know what hospital/ what room etc, send flowers and food and stuff and I just had to say.. hey sorry no thanks we will keep you posted!! Is there a chance they could actually call to verify if I’m in the hospital? And try to send flowers and stuff anyway ? Is there any chance the hospital will say I just don’t have that name in the directory if they do call?) I did tell my work which hospital but didn’t provide any other info and asked them to hang tight. It’s really stressing me out

They could ask for proof but I believe HIPPA laws protects you from them asking anything about your status from the hospital....but yet...you shouldn't of lied.
you should have just told them your doctor ordered bed rest. there are laws to protect you and your job when it comes to having a baby but there are no laws to protect you from being fired for lying.

Just tell them that the hospital send you home but you need to be on complete bed rest...
