Do kicks generally do more damage than punches? If so, why?

Not trying to condone violence or anything but I'm just curious

there's too much variation to answer this accurately... but... in theory... kicks can cause more damage on average. Yes.. part of is where you are hitting... (a punch on the chin... kick in the stomach... or sharp kick in the shins...)... see what I mean.

Depends on where you do the kicking and punching. Different parts of the body are more sensitive than others.

depends on the "style" some kicks are just a check, to inter cede, those big round house ones look good but are easy to dodge or block
there are some punches, "three Inch" and Classic Boxing that are devastating . and the hand is faster than the feet usually
Thai Boxing has a bad ass system of short kicks often uysing the shin, that ca end the action
like every other thing,
Scissors Paper, ROck

@SatyrService thanks that's very helpful!

Yes, because the leg muscles are larger and stronger than the arm muscles, and because there is more weight behind a properly executed kick than a punch. But that being said, it is easier to hit a critical area like the head, face, and chest with a punch than it is with a kick, meaning punches may still do more damage because of where you hit.

It depends, when I used to get into fights/ gang brawls when I was a lot younger, I barely kicked, and I always knew my kicks were ineffective, but I did have a one punch knock out fist.
Probably kicks if the person had big heavy boots on. Then again one punch in the wrong direction and you could be under a bus.

Equal potential to cause damage

Punches can produce greater effect provided you don't fight with a footballer. He or she may ground anyone with their kick, I guess.

I think they both can inflict equal amounts of pain and damage

I think that literally depends on where the contact is...

Maybe because the legs have much bigger muscles?

Depends on how well you can punch or kick
