I think it wasn't much fun. My Mom lived in a small house in the city, with 8 other siblings, and a drunken Father. Grandma went to work, so the oldest (of which she was one) were tasked with taking care of the younger ones.
My Dad bounced around from place to place with his Mom, brothers and sisters, but the story is very similar. He got into boxing, and doing odd jobs. Getting into the work force was top priority.
Not many photos of them as kids, I think there's one of my Mom and 2 of my Dad, I was told they couldn't afford a camera.

@BrewCityBarfly Certainly doesn't sound much "fun".

@alan20 Well, I'll say this, it was a completely different lifestyle than what I lived. I have an appreciation for the hardships, and don't take things for granted.

My Dad told me what his life was like. It was sheer hell, because his father was an abusive tyrant.

Yes. Some of mine wrote diaries.

They don't mind anymore. Courting letters from WWI too.

I wish I lived in that time

@SW-User It would be nice if we could go for short trips back. Time travel to try it out!

@alan20 My grandmother was beaten daily by her moron husband...there was no protection for women then...she had 7 babies she was left alone to raise. The two generations after that were quite dysfunctional...my mother who witnessed the violence against her mother who died at 41 from a cerebral hemorrhage...was also violent...one person can ruin the lives of generations after them
