I think you need to not overthink it too much. And the thing is if you are holding back there is less incentive for him to commit to you too. Think about it. If you are in his shoes and sensed you were holding back he might think you are going to bold for someone more "interesting." And just being a "normal" on the outside does not mean much having been that guy. And I know people who look like total bad ass punks who are the most dull squares out there. The wrapping does not mean much.

I think that if core values are similar, personality differences don't really matter, particularly if you find those differences attractive, or complementary to yourself. If those differences irritate you, well then its a case of opposites not attracting. I also get the feeling you might be selling yourself short....you may be very attractive to him.
