Do you think that sports or academics are more important in schools/education?

I recently found out that my old high school is undergoing budget cuts, including cutting funding from the schools student run newspaper and most library clubs, while the sports department remained untouched, and still the most heavily funded.

Academics by far. Sports programs are largely just scholarship and federal grant farms. Don't get me wrong, physical education is important, but most schools don't actually approach sports programs as physical education.

Naturally academics. Sports get more attention because they get funding and its popular with the parents, which is really unfortunate. And as school funding dries up, they just focus more and more on sports because it's a guaranteed moneymaker.
We go to school to learn, no?

Living the typical, American highschool student life is a luxury. Last I checked, Friday night football games only got people so far.

Getting a good education is important.
