my bfs stupid comments

im a teacher and today i ran into a teenage student at the grocery store with her mother in tow. I quickly greeted her and introduced her to my bf who doesnt hesitate for a moment to greet her mother with "oh who is this? is this your sister?" i looked at him incredulously. first of all it sounded like a corny pickup line and secondly it's completely ingenuine cause my student is 17 and the lady looked like she was 50 going on 70 and not fooling anyone about it . (PS my bf is the same age) i told him after to stop using that (stupid) line because he uses it all the time in similar contexts. Does anyone agree with how i see this comment?

It's kinda awkward.
Like you're trying so hard to flatter the person or make yourself likable.
Or maybe he's just awkward.
Idk the situation

But it's even more awkward to be flirty when you're with your partner and they run into someone they deal with on a professional level.

that nails it on the head! to make himself likeable especially!! i was like omg are u serious? she's not an effin idiot.

kinda reminds me of my dad. he often throws me and my mum under the bus at social events in order to make himself likeable. And he ends up looking ridiculous.

I think he's an istp

I have to agree, such guys are just plain arrogant and disrespecting. I know couple of these and always feel sorry for their spouse.

Yes... don't see his purpose, other than to look like a flirt.

BINGO.

Dont b so insecure
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
im def not insecure of a 50 going on 70 year old. i'm 39 - 11 years younger than the both of them. i just think it's annoying and stupid to compliment someone on something that obviously isn't true in such a corny and kind of cheap way.
Lol that's pretty hilarious

Lol, he was just trying to be funny and charming.
Not really. Sounds like he was trying to be kind to her mother. How did she take it ? Was she offended ? Why did it bother you so much ?

because it's ingenuine and insincere. it's something you say to gain endearment to a female you're fond of perhaps, but not to the parent of a student your gf knows in a professional regard.

i mean the equivalent would be for me to walk up to someone he knows who's very obese or very skinny and say something flirty/charming like "wow, how much do YOU workout???" does that make any sense? it's obvious i'm being insincere.
@HumblleJumblle: I see.
