@Thevy29 It is; I presume the village was built around the castle. There is one - Claypotts - in Dundee in the middle of a housing scheme, while Edinburgh itself is in the centre of the city. Things move on.

@helensusanswift So did they knock down the wall and moat to build the road or was it always like that?

@Thevy29 I doubt it ever had a moat- but there might have been a barmekin - a walled enclosure around the main building. If so, it's long gone now.
