I Am a Very Awful Person
We were feeding the ducks. It was just me, my sister, and our two nephews. There were only a couple ducks approaching us. We threw them some bread and it was all fun and fine.
A few more ducks showed up, and we tossed them some bread too, and some to the pigeons and grackles that landed right next to us. I handed my nephew the bag of bread so I could get a drink. When I looked back over to them, I saw that we were all surrounded by birds.
"Guys...we gotta go."
They cluelessly went about feeding birds, so I started snatching up our stuff before cheerfully shouting that it was time to go to the playground.
Ducks and geese started hopping out of the water and my sister finally looked up. She grabbed the younger kid and we started hurrying away. It seemed like every goose, pigeon, and duck in the area was closing in on us.
I looked back and saw that the six-year-old was surrounded by a gang of geese. We'd left him behind. One of the geese was trying to pull the bread bag out of his hand. He screamed...
And I lost it. I couldn't stop laughing at how absurd it all was. I'm still laughing. This will probably turn out to be one of my more fond memories of him even if he'll look back on it as the time we left him to get eaten alive by birds.
If you're ever in that kind of trouble, I'll probably laugh a good bit before saving you.
