Stillness and Thought
Ah, a cool breeze if not for just a moment
the day is warm picture perfect they say
yes it is and I’m taking part
sitting in my car windows down
the shade of the trees dance their shadows
on the asphalt
I am waiting here for what I do not know
for whom the bell tolls if it indeed tolls for me
I do not hear for my time is not yet at hand
I sit often counting grains of sand
wondering how many more grains there be for me
I’ve escaped the loneliness of my empty rooms
for at least today because the sun is too warm and wonderful to waste
I am but a stranger in this foreign land
still alone in a sea of smiles
amid well wishing smiling friends
I hold my tears in abeyance
for to let them go I fear I’d cry a thousand lifetimes lining them up all in a row
to thine own heart be true
my heart cries out to no one there
the day is warm picture perfect they say
yes it is and I’m taking part
sitting in my car windows down
the shade of the trees dance their shadows
on the asphalt
