I Like to Write From Time to Time

I choose to have stable footing
A foundation that holds the weight of my action
And yet I search beyond my reach
Seeking even greater satisfaction

The retriever in me leads my imagination
I am designed to find the treasure
Yet the training in me speaks softly
Reminding me in where I find my measure

Seeking, searching, wishing for more
Leaves me ungrateful and feeling less
Leaping off of my foundation
Would destroy the trust in which I rest

You see, goldens know truth
Regardless of what other retrievers say
We know our value and our purpose
Even better, we know how to “stay”.

I would never presume to advise humans
You feed me and appreciate my deeds
But to other goldens, I would say
Look close to home to meet your needs
